I hope these lessons can help you simplify, find purpose and balance - in both work and life.
Why Life Lessons? It started as a quip made by a colleague as I held court one day at work, explaining the joys and struggles of pregnancy. But it's become a calling of sorts - a mission to help as many people as I can navigate things that are hard, complicated and complex.
I’ve always been curious, on a voracious quest to better understand. Not knowing feels uncomfortable sometimes. And I crave that rush of energy and satisfaction that comes with figuring something out. I find a topic that makes me excited, or weak, or confused and I go deep. I explore until my research starts to double up, layer and fold back over. Once I start coming across ideas that feel familiar, phrases said slightly differently but ultimately expressing the same concepts, i know I’ve gotten to the bottom. I know now.
Earlier in my career, my colleagues would come to me with questions, asking my advice. As I gained experience and expertise, I spent a lot of time reflecting. exploring the edges of my own understanding of the situation, experimenting and refining my reaction and planned approach. I would consume volumes of written accounts, consult experts, question and experiment on my own. And then, it would click. I'd put things into action. But it never felt real until I was able to share that knowledge with other people. Which has become one of my favorite parts of my life. Calming the chaos is my life's purpose. And I'd like nothing more than to share these lessons with you. Helping others navigate the complexities of this great life with the assistance of my research. Raising tides lift all ships, right? I love nothing more than helping some get 'unstuck' by recommending a book suggestion, a tip or trick to make their path a bit easier.
Over the years, I’ve learned about parenting, personal finance, efficiency and productivity (and then, a few years later - about how to slow down, practice mindfulness and intentionality), leadership, energetic healing. The list goes on. I’ve collected a bookshelf filled with gurus and guides who have shared so openly that I view them as friends.
I plan to write about topics I’ve learned and practices that I use to navigate my days. I’ll share more how those ideas impact me as I continue to manage the day to day business of living a full, rich and complicated life. Thanks for sharing in this journey with me. I welcome feedback and hope this will be a supportive space and community for others on a similar path.
